DOUBLING UP AGAIN. UH HUH.

Yeah. I have been lazy or perhaps I could hide behind the word "busy" which is a common word that all writers like to use as cover Please go to the archive to see the little gegaws that my webmaster puts in. The color and pictures DO make this missive much more interesting. Don't read any further until you go to www.peggyfielding.com The better to see what has been happening in my world.

JEN AND HER MOM

Let's go back to OWFI in May to start. I kept seeing Jen Nipps with the young woman whom I took to be her cousin, sister, friend. They all came dressed up for the last night and yes...there was the youngish cousin, sister, friend, with her. Jen finally made me understand that the cousin, sister, friend, was her MOTHER.

TALKING ABOUT MOTHERS

I have finally gotten around to cleaning out drawers from years ago. Recently I found a pencil drawing I made of Miss Hazel when she was in her eighties. She is wearing a sunbonnet made for her by Jolene Gafford. I still have the sun bonnet. Mother was on her way to work in her garden when I sketched her. The picture made me wish I still had the little old lady around. I often think, "Oh, I need to share that story with Miss Hazel," then I instantly realize that the only way I can share my tidbit with my mom is through thought or prayer.

Jolene Gafford is one of the best writers to pass through my hands. I had to call her and tell her about the drawing and thank her once more for the sunbonnet Mama loved so well.

I'VE BEEN TO CUBA FOR A FEW DAYS

Yeah, I have just finished reading, TELEX FROM CUBA by Rachel Kushner. It is set during the very years that I was living there and then was evacuated from there, and then went back. Much of what is in the book were experiences I shared in small ways. I was thrown back into my past in Guantanamo at warp speed. Of course, that put me back into my marriage with Ray Fielding as well. Caused me to dream about that old boy and I thought I had given up that dreaming of him entirely.

When you get really old you may find that (as I have) sometimes just a word, or a fragrance, or a memory can trigger a complete reliving of traumatic moments.

TNW VOTES

I offer a free class to Tulsa NightWriters about three or four times a year. Recently they voted to have the free class in Writing Short Stories, at my house. I look forward to the class with great interest. I have quit teaching at Tulsa Community College but love teaching, so this promises to be fun.

THIS BRINGS UP THE OLD HEN AND THE ANSWER TO HER PRAYERS

Jeri W and her assistant, Kelley, the people who run Continuing Education at TCC, heard me gripe to them that Bill Clinton had been here in Tulsa, working to raise money for the Salvation Army and he hadn't even stepped up on my porch. They send me a packet of pictures taken from a Tulsa World photograph, with my face photoshopped over the face of one of the society ladies of Tulsa, specifically the one who was being embraced by Bill! Voila! My prayers answered. I've tried to see that all my Republican friends and family receive a copy of the picture. It made me laugh a lot.

OUR NEW "POUTRY BOOK"

Jackie King and I are so thrilled with our new book, TWO FOXY HOLIDAY HENS AND ONE BIG ROOSTER. It has such a beautiful cover and it does read well. We are still thrilled that the famous Dusty Richards put a really good novella in with ours. He calls the book "Our Poultry Book."

We're signing the new book at Steve's here in Tulsa, on August 15, from 1-3 p.m. We are also thrilled that we will have a "trailer" set up at Steve's. The trailer was built by our little pal, Deanna Ponder.

PEGGY IS A SWEET LITTLE OLD LADY NOW

When I tell Jackie or some of my other writer friends that I ask for a "Sweet Little Old Lady" hairdo at the beauty shop these days, they laugh hysterically. They go along with the Little and the Old but the SWEET is what kills them.

I now luxuriate in going to the beauty shop once a week where I ask for the "Sweet little old lady" hairdo. I have never been a regular at the Beauty Shop. Now, the ladies at the Ashlynn beauty shop near my house treat me so well. They give me stuff to drink and Lisa fixes my toes and Lynn gives me the "Sweet little old lady" hairdo without snickering at all. I love those girls, both of them. Lisa has put herself on something on the internet, Facebook, or something, and she has listed Peggy Fielding as her favorite Author, she tells me. Wow, or as they say in the Philippines, WALASTIK.

WRITING AND DRAWING FOR A NEW BOOK

I am writing a new book called, WRITING THE NONFICTION BOOK. I have also drawn little cartoons for each chapter. The two drawings here are from those cartoons for the nonfiction book. The tall person is Jackie, the Red Hen and the short person is you-know-who, often called, "The Old Hen." I wish they were in color.

SEX?

You know the answer to that question, other than Bill in a picture and Ray in a dream. That just isn't as good as the real thing, darling readers. Romney says "mmmm-m-m-ming" counts, but not as a sin, so okay. Reverend Rom is out in California with her sick mother and with her suffering artistic son. Bless her heart.

Love to you all. I will try to be on time in August. Surely something interesting will happen to me...or to someone I know.
