PEGGY FIELDING'S NEWSLETTER
Vol. 5 Number 2 February 2005

ON TIME?

Unbelievable, yet here we are. (Go now to the newsletter archives to read this edition of my little missive and that way you'll get to see the photographs that go with it.)

CONTEST OVER

I have finished MAKE BELIEVE CURATE today ant then sent it out to Avalon after I'd looked through the guesses from my readers. The reader with the closest guess was Larry Sells, otherwise know as Freaky Frights, I think. Larry forgot to enclose his mailing address and the title of the book he has chosen. Larry (Or Freaky, as you prefer?) send your info and I will get right back to you.

Pam Reeder of Depew, Oklahoma, was next closest. Sorry Pam. She did win in a way, because she seemed right for a Parisien courturier cloak, circa 1939, which I no longer wear. She is one of my chicks, a working writer who is climbing the ladder to success. She had been writing mystery weekends long before she met me and is selling those affairs right and left. She is also selling confessions. Check last month's letter if you want to learn about her first confessions sales.

Now to pray that Avalon likes CURATE is our next duty. All you saintly ones out there, such as Virginia Torres of Tulsa, Radine Nehring of Gravette, Arkansas, and JoEtta Street of Norman, Oklahoma, please add my name to your regular prayer lists. It can't hurt to have some good Christians rooting for me. Oh, yes, Kim Chaffin of Stillwater, Oklahoma is a good Buddhist. Please Kim, entreat Buddha on my behalf, would you?

NEW CONTEST

Well, let's keep CURATE in mind.

Think of the date when I will hear from Avalon...either an acceptance or a rejection. Send in your guesses for that particular date, same deal...enclose your US Mail address and the book you prefer. Those of you who have been in classes with me or who have published books, will know that publishers are generally pretty slow to get back to writers.

OTHER NEW BOOKS OUT SOON

Dan and I are revising our book A COMPLETE GUIDE FOR WRITING AND SELLING MAGAZINE ARTICLES and I am also revising CONFESSING FOR MONEY. There have been a number of changes in the past year, starting with the sale of all the confessions magazines to Dorchester Media.

UFO PROGRAM

I've been wracking my brain trying to think how I could use Peter Jenning's UFO report on TV on the 24th of February, to heat up sales for my book, BARBARA. The book is a biography of a UFO investigator who lives in Turley, Oklahoma. Any suggestions? I'd be happy to hear from anyone who can offer a plan.

Barbara Bartholic, (Yeah, the investigator herself!) and Jackie King and I are going to Missouri in June. I've been asked to speak about UFO's and figured Barbara knew more about that than I do. I'm going to talk about writing about Barbara.

VALENTINES

I got two of them; one from my long time pal and former student, Debby Camp, author of more than 45 published novels and one from Romney Nesbitt, who is new to the writing business. She has already made her first sale to Pat Byrdsong at True Confessions Magazine. Romney has also had a nibble on her nonfiction book. I already think of Romeny as a colleague, even though she is continuing to enroll in some of my classes.

Both women are successful in their own ways. Debby with a stack of published novels, Romney with her climb just beginning. The teacher inside of me is always thrilled by students' successes. Both these two writers are stars.

FAMOUS NAME STUDENT

Can you believe who I had in my last two classes at TCC?

Harry Potter, darlings!

I love the guy. He laughs at everything I say and he has said some pretty nice things to and about me. (No, I'm too modest to repeat his words but trust me. The words were good.)

LOVEMAKING?

No, Harry Potter didn't go that far and neither did anyone else.

Dusty Richards hasn't sent me a Logan book in a good while. Can't he understand that I'm suffering some sexual deprivation here?

TULSA NIGHTWRITERS VOTE

Last night the TNW group voted to have me conduct a workshop on Query, Synopses, Proposals, and Cover Letters. They are a serious bunch, it seems. Runnerup in the voting was "Writing the Mystery Novel." We'll start on the Monday after our next NightWriter's meeting in March. Join in if you're a club member or want to become one.

MARCH WILL BE EXCITING

Perhaps?

Love to all of you.
