Vol. 1 Number 3 June 2001 I've heard from some of my readers that my newsletter should be about my work or about myself. Truth to tell I find writing about Peggy to be somewhat boring, but other writers are always endlessly fascinating to me. Like Chuck Sasser. For the past 6 weeks, Chuck has been turning up on every page of my website, complete with uniform and serious expression. Now he seems to be gone and I kind of miss him. Anyway, years ago I heard Charles Sasser (www.CharlesSasser.com) talking before the Tulsa NightWriters. Chuck called his speech "The Lonely Circle of Light" and told us about how solitary a real practicing writer must be. Good speech, as I remember. Chuck had just resigned from the Tulsa Police Force to become a fulltime writer and had moved to a tiny town called Jennings, Oklahoma (population about 500) to try to cut expenses while he became a selling writer. Neither lack of money nor solitude are problems for Chuck these days. He has had more than 25 books published and he cant be lonely on an Oklahoma ranch complete with a loving wife and scores of horses and cows to tend to. Several of his books are perennial best sellers. One of my favorites, ONE SHOT ONE KILL, is used as a text by some division of the army I understand so the money must be pouring in. Now Chuck is going on a book tour and I want to go with him. But wait. You havent heard the best part. Chuck is making his book tour in a lighter-than-air-craft that he is piloting himself. Hell be touching down at any convenient spot near a bookstore where he is contracted to sign. I wonder if a fat, little old woman carrying a small overnight bag would overburden such a small craft? (I knew my private pilots license would come in handy someday.) Now, doesnt that sound like fun? And clever! What a great publicity gimmick. If I went with my pal hed have to make a bit more room for another even older little old lady. Where I go Ms. Hazel must go. Of course, shes lighter than air herself these days so perhaps she wouldnt be a problem? I was thrilled when Dan Case told me that our book THE COMPLETE GUIDE TO WRITING AND SELLING MAGAZINE ARTICLES had been posted on a list of the best selling ebooks for the first quarter of 2001. Its number 17 out of the 20 listed. Huzzah! Not only that, now, NOW, you can get a copy of the book in a trade edition sized bound paperback from Booklocker.com if you prefer to read from a page rather than from a screen. Really. Subscribe to my website and get a free sample of the book (www.peggyfielding.com) if you want to see what youll be ordering. As for SALLY, Im not really sure what is happening with Hard Shell Word Factory (www.hardshell.com) I think they are installing new electronic machines so it may be August or September before you actually get to see President Thomas Jefferson in bed with his young slave Sally Hammings. Can you wait? You wont have to wait much longer for BARBARA: THE STORY OF A UFO INVESTIGATOR. She is ready to roll from AWOCbooks.com just as soon as we get the promised foreword from a well-known authority in the field of UFO investigations. The authority shall be nameless for now but I promise youll love the story of the beautiful model who turned to UFO research for her lifes work. When I had to leave my husband in the Philippines (hed found a 19-year-old he liked) I told him I was thinking of becoming a writer. He sneered and called me crazy. What did I know about writing? He wanted to know. "Nothing" I told him but that I could learn. He said that with all my degrees Id be stupid to leave the academic world. I shouldnt even think I could do anything in the field of writing, for Gods Sake. Stupid maybe, old boy, I said, but Im making you a promise right now. Im going to write and publish in every field just to prove you wrong. And Ive done that! Almost. Those of you who want to try for a free copy of A COMPLETE GUIDE TO WRITING AND SELLING ARTICLES need only send your guess as to the few fields of writing I have not yet invaded to Peggy@PeggyFielding.com and if you guess right Ill send the ebook (on disc) to you. FREE. My ebook CONFESSING FOR MONEY isnt off the ground yet but it will be. Dan Case says he has my audio tape of Confessing for Money from Writers Audio Shop (www.writersaudio.com) memorized because he has played it in his car so often. Maybe he can write the book for me? Carolyn Leonard and Jackie Ponder and Jheri Fleet have written me wonderful fan letters. I do love hearing nice stuff from other writers and their cats. See you all in July, my friends. | ||
